Sushi Classes in Houston
About our sushi classes
The Sushi Club of Houston provides fantastic, personalized classes to sushi lovers in Houston, Texas and beyond. If you've ever wanted to learn to make your own sushi, this is the perfect class for you.

Generally, the classes are held at two or three different locations throughout Houston, Texas.  Depending on the size of the class and availability of the space.  In the past, we've handled all classes independently to keep the interest in the class at a managable level and ensure the costs are kept as low as possible.  We have, at times, worked with companies such as Bloomspot, Fab.com, Yipit, Scoutmob, Savored, and Thrillist Rewards to encourage the love (and education) for sushi but our interests are never related to profit.  We host several classes through our organizations - Sushi Club and Asian Dining Group.

In many cases, institutions (such as schools, private groups, libraries and universities) request demonstrations.  At times, we're requested to provide classes in intimate settings (for example, a small class at a private residence). But mostly, we provide a wide variety of sushi-making classes to our members and self-proclaimed sushi lovers throughout the city of Houston.  Most importantly, the classes are designed to cover the costs of materials - fish, rice, beverages, etc.  They are not designed to make a profit.  We want you to keep as much money in your pocket as you can.  Instead, the classes were developed to ensure that the everyday sushi lover can learn to master the art of making great sushi at home.

Sushi Class Specifics
Our sushi classes provide the following:
•Professionally printed handouts which include recommendations, prepared outlines of the classes and even a sushi-making shopping list.
•A full explanation about sushi, the importance of sushi rice, sushi's evolution and history.
•Students learn how to make sushi nigiri, maki (traditional rolls) and uramaki (fusion-style sushi rolls) and more.
•The typical sushi class lasts between 1 1/2 to 2 hours, depending on the agenda and preferences of the class.
•Sushi students are encouraged to attend the classes wearing comfortable clothing and an empty stomach.  You'll be eating your successful work (as well as your mistakes).
•You'll learn sushi about common sushi misconceptions and tactics that many sushi restaurants and sushi chefs utilize on a daily basis.

Without question, you'll gain a stronger understanding about sushi.  We're hoping that you'll use your newfound knowledge and pass the advice onto other sushi lovers.

Profit is Never the Goal
Many people are often surprised when they learn that our classes are so affordable - our classes are not designed to make a profit, merely reimbursing the class for the fish, rice, knives, bottled water, etc.  In many cases, we receive generous product/equipment donations from corporations and restaurants to help us offset the cost of the classes. The cost of the classes may fluctuate due to the availability of fresh fish and other ingredients.  For example, when we provide classes including fatty tuna, the cost of the class may increase.  Additionally, our students tend to obtain small gifts and samples from our most recent trips to Japan. Any and all surprises from Japan at offered at no cost to the class attendees.  They are merely donated to the class(es).

In many cases, we provide complimentary (absolutely free) demonstrations and presentations thanks to the generosity of local businesses and donations from the restaurants that we work with.  We take every effort to provide the lowest possible cost to every demonstration and presentations.

Several, recent complimentary presentations have been at the Bayland Community Center, Sam Houston State University, Texas A & M, The city of Houston (Learn at Lunch), the Girl Scouts of Houston, dozens of Harris County Library locations, the Lonestar Community College Teacher's Association and even for corporations such as General Electric and Exxon/Mobil.  If we can assist (and keep the costs to an absolute minimum), we're glad to help.

At this time, we are receiving a flurry of interest in 'Sushi Classes at Home.'  The concept is simple and fun.  Those interested in learning about sushi are given a full Sushi 101 class in the comfort of their own home.  It's fun, convenient and astonishingly affordable. The goal is to offer a great class, teach you about the fundamental aspects of sushi and keep the expenses as low as possible.
